I am trying to connect to and configure a T1 interface device using Putty. When I click on the 'serial' option in Putty it shows it is using as the default port.

I unistalled all the printers and disconnected every USB device. I then checked each USB access with a memory stick. Everything worked.

In fact anythinng that doesn't require a driver works. E.g memory sticks, barcode reader etc. None of the printers will install, they do not see the USB controller. I have a USB controller coming tomorrow and I will turn off the computer's USB controllers and install the USB controller card and try again. Should this fail, I will reinstall another OS and see what happens.

At least I'm not bored in my retirement:-). If this turns out to be a Windows 7 problem, it will be the first in months. I plan to do a clean install with the RC version even if an upgrade is available. I have a similar problem with 2x external hard drives.

Both are Buffalo but can only see that it's happening to one of them, but the other is really quiet anyway. The problem is that if I watch a DVD movie via WMC the playback seems to stutter every few mins.

Upon getting closer to it, it seems to run through a power cycle without any lights going off which of course causes some stutter in playback. I thought it would resolve itself, but to be honest it's going to end up killing the hard drive with constant power cycles, so hopefully the RC will get around this if a fix is known. Like K0rww, I've disabled any power settings on the pc for USB devices etc but still occurring. I have an Asus P5-HDMI motherboard and has the latest version of the BIOS available.

Sadly it makes Win7 unusable on my machine, so fortunately dual booting with Vista gets around this issue, so clearly an OS problem.
